Система половых хромосом, включающая более 2 элементов, но не связанная с полисомией по половым хромосомам; наиболее часто присутствует «серия» Х-хромосом (Х1Х1Х2Х2 у самок и Х1Х2Y у самцов и т.д.), причем число Х-хромосом может колебаться (у некоторых клонов), иногда встречается множественность Y-хромосом; известны М.п.х. и при женской гетерогаметности; эволюционно М.п.х. являются производными от системы XX/XY и, как правило, возникают в результате Х-аутосомных перестроек (транслокаций); в мейозе М.п.х. обычно формируют мультиваленты.
